Vegemite on Toast

Vegemite on Toasten

Also: Vegemite toast

A slice of buttered toast spread thinly with Vegemite, a dark, salty Australian brewer's-yeast extract.

Identity criteria

  1. 1Vegemite specifically — the Australian yeast extract, not Marmite or another spread
  2. 2Spread thinly over a layer of butter or margarine, never used like jam
  3. 3Built on toasted bread so the butter melts into it
  4. 4Savoury, intensely salty and umami, never sweet
