A baked, crunchy grain-and-nut mixture in which fat and dry heat transform oats and adjuncts into crisp, free-flowing clusters. Unlike its sweet counterpart, it contains no added sugar or honey; the fat serves solely as a carrier for savoury aromatics and seasoning. Grains (oats, nuts, seeds) form the structural base. Fat at 10 % of grain weight is the minimum to bind clusters and promote browning; 12–15 % yields richer, more cohesive clumps. Seasoning (salt, pepper, dried herbs, spices) totals about 3 % of grain weight. Water is absent — any moisture is the enemy of crispness.
