Method
Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
Peel and cube the sweet potato and butternut squash into 2 cm pieces. Toss with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and spread in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Roast for 20-25 minutes, tossing halfway through, until very tender and lightly caramelized at the edges. Cool on the pan for 10 minutes.
Transfer the roasted vegetables to a large bowl. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon coconut oil and mash until smooth. Stir in the egg until fully incorporated.
Add the rolled oats, smoked paprika, and salt to the vegetable mixture. Stir vigorously until a thick, cohesive dough forms — it should pull away from the sides of the bowl.
Scoop the dough by heaping tablespoons (about 30g each) and roll into balls. Place 5 cm apart on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten each ball into a 1 cm disc with the palm of your hand.
Press a few sunflower seeds onto the top of each biscuit for a crunchy, pawfect finish.
Bake for 18-22 minutes, until the edges are crisp and golden. Flip the biscuits halfway through for even browning.
Cool the biscuits on the pan for 10 minutes to firm up — they will harden as they cool. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving to your pack. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

Cross Contamination
Rolled oats are frequently processed in facilities that also handle wheat, so they may contain trace gluten even when labeled gluten-free. If baking for a dog with gluten sensitivity, use certified gluten-free oats.
Cooking Temperature
Verify oven temperature with an oven thermometer. Preheat to 190°C (375°F) for roasting vegetables, then reduce to 175°C (350°F) for baking biscuits. Inaccurate temperatures can result in undercooked centers or burnt exteriors.
Storage
Store finished biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Ensure biscuits are completely cooled before sealing to prevent moisture buildup and mold growth.
Shelf Life
These biscuits contain no artificial preservatives. Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to freezer bags for up to 2 months storage. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
Allergen Warning
Egg allergen present. Clean all bowls, utensils, and surfaces thoroughly with hot soapy water after preparing the egg portion to prevent cross-contact with human food if made alongside human treats.
Handling
Allow roasted vegetables to cool for 10 minutes before mashing to prevent burns. The dough will be warm from the vegetables. Use caution when transferring hot pans from the oven.
This recipe is formulated for canine consumption only. While the ingredients are dog-safe, the nutritional profile is designed for dogs. Keep treats stored separately from human food to prevent accidental ingestion by humans unaware these are pet treats.
Pro Tips
Technique
When you're mashing those roasted veggies, make sure they're properly cooled first — nobody wants烫舌头 surprises, and warm mash makes the dough too sticky to handle properly for that perfect biscuit shape!
Substitution
If butternut squash isn't available, you can swap it with an extra half cup of sweet potato — the flavor profile stays wonderfully sweet and the texture remains spot-on pawfect!
From the chef
These Smoky Sweet Potato and Butternut Crunch Biscuits are all about that roasted depth — sweet potato and butternut squash caramelise in the oven until they develop a gorgeous natural sweetness, then get mashed into a thick, golden dough with rolled oats and a whisper of smoked paprika. That smoked paprika is the secret — it adds just a little sophistication to every crunchy bite, and the sunflower seed crown on top gives each biscuit a satisfying snap. Firm up as they cool and they stay fresh for days, which means the pack gets to enjoy these magnificent morsels all week long!
